April 11, 2008
At the WiMAX Congress Asia 2008 held on April 9-10 in Singapore, Motorola announced that it will forge a strategic alliance with UTStarcom and Taiwanese telecom operator FITEL (First International Telecom). The three companies will collaborate on deploying a WiMAX network in northern Taiwan, Taiwan's Economic Daily reported.

FITEL's deployment of WiMAX base stations in Taipei City is slated for completion in the first half of 2008 and is expected to start trial runs immediately afterwards, according to the same report. Meanwhile, Motorola has obtained a total of 19 WiMAX network contracts up until now, with 77 construction plans underway in 44 countries worldwide. Further details regarding the strategic alliance, however, were not yet made public.
